CAT EYES THROUGH CANTHOPLASTY OR THREAD LIFT?
Sexy and mysterious, that’s how patients want to look who want to follow the trend of “cat eyes”. Some celebrities are leading the way, Kim Kardashian or Bella Hadid already have the dramatic eye look and slanted eyes. But how useful is such a procedure?
The cat-eyes already occurred in the past, Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot drove their fans crazy with the special cat-eye eyeliner. Then later, fashionable sunglasses with the shape of cat eyes made further statements. And now this absurd “trend” has arrived in plastic surgery. Celebrities, stars and starlets now want to look even more beautiful and mysterious with the “Bella Eyes” or “Foxy Eyes” in real life and by means of Insta-filters.
If the desire for cat eyes is so great that you want to perform a procedure, there are two options:
INVASIVE: CAT EYES THROUGH KANTHOPLASTY.
Canthoplasty is a surgical procedure. A tightening of the lateral edge of the eyelid is performed. It is intended to give the patient a mysterious expression, to make the eye more almond-shaped or even cat-shaped. During such an operation, the lower edge of the eyelid is incised in the outer corner of the eye to gain access to the tendon. Then the edge of the eyelid is pulled slightly upwards. The orbicularis oculi muscle is sutured to the periosteum of the temporal bone. The eyelid frenulum is placed slightly higher. If the canthoplasty is performed as part of a lower eyelid lift and the lower eyelid has too much excess skin, the surgeon removes a small piece of skin near the corner of the eye and brings the edges together, resulting in even more tissue tightening.
NON-INVASIVE: CAT EYES BY THREAD LIFTING.
Thread lifting with PDO threads tightens particularly gently and pulls the eyes into the cat shape with self-dissolving threads. The surgeon tries to change the downward transversal angle in two directions by placing one PDO thread at the eyebrow and one at the outer part of the eye and pulling it slightly upward.
If one speaks of cat-eyes, the so-called transversal angle is analyzed. This angle is found by drawing a line from the inside of the eye, next to the nose, out to the outer point of the eyes. If this line runs upwards, it is called a positive transversal angle, if it runs downwards, it is called a negative transversal angle. If it is negative, the facial expression may be affected, one appears sad, tired and flabby.
Postitive or negative eye angle
RARELY MAKES SENSE.
In summary, we are very critical of this “trend”. Cat eye treatment is aesthetically useful for us only in a few cases, namely when the negative transversal angle can be changed to positive. PDO threads can counteract the tired-looking face – the cat eye makes the angle appear positive and highlights the eyes. The face appears more prominent. Everything else, cat’s eye as a new ideal of beauty to look like his idol, we reject.
